I think Yahtzee put it best, "it's a jarring tonal shift at best and disrespectful of the subject matter at worst."Crystanubishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00389586250831045241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2030611194704207262.post-28510557081742410992010-05-31T16:11:51.769-05:002010-05-31T16:11:51.769-05:00I always hate when something like that happens in ...I always hate when something like that happens in a movie or a TV show- it can totally overshadow the quality of the rest of it and render the work unwatchable and incredibly difficult to recommend. Though this is on a different scale, since it's airheaded anime, when I was at college, all of my friends were very into Ouran Host Club, which was a very charming and cute anime- that is, if you could overlook the episode where the boys decided the female lead was behaving too boldly for a girl and pretended they were going to rape her to teach her a lesson. My friends defended it as the only way to show Haruhi "the error of her ways," since obviously, it's common to be so self-loathing that you want to see severe psychological torment inflicted on a cartoon character because she can take care of herself. Still, I thought the whole thing was so repellent that I still can't watch the show without cringing.

Sorry, that got off onto a bit of a tangent, but I completely understand what you meant by this blog post. It doesn't take much of a misstep to wreck something.missy-tannenbaumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05522386889303860846noreply@blogger.com
